WELCOME TO THE KINZUA VALLEY TRAIL

Celebrating our 25th year the KVT gently winds alongside the Kinzua Creek, spanning 10 miles and growing, into the Allegheny National Forest.

Message from our President:
Best wishes to all for a happy healthy and prosperous New Year, 2024 will be an incredible year for the KVTC! 2024 marks our 25th Anniversary founded by a small group of local visionaries, it is fitting that this year will see their dream come to fruition with the completion of this Historical Trail Spanning from Red Bridge campground to the Kinzua Bridge State Park. Events are a great way to raise support for our trail, and the cabin fever fundraiser held on January 27, 2024 was a great success with over 200 supporters and friends of the trail attending. Our annual trout opener is scheduled for the first day of trout season April 6, 2024 at the Kinzua Valley Trail Club maintenance building. Food, refreshments, raffles and memberships we will be available.

I want to thank our board of directors’ membership, volunteers, supporters both public and private, and all our friends of the trail for making this Historical trail possible. Your continued support will allow us to complete this final section and maintain our existing trail system. Please consider advertising or memorizing loved ones by purchasing an engraved brick to be laid at our Westline trailhead. Endowments and gifting are additional ways of showing your support for the Kinzua Valley Trail. get up, get out and enjoy the beautiful Kinzua Valley year-round with hiking, biking, world-class fly fishing and cross-country skiing.

recent history

In 2018, the Kinzua Valley Trail Club was successful in securing a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to construct a three-mile extension of the Kinzua Valley Trail from Westline eastward to US Route 219. This section now connects to the new, fenced-in trailhead at the old “Tally Ho” location, just adjacent to Route 219.

Construction of a covered bridge over the Kinzua Creek located at the old village of Olivedale is now complete with an ADA Accessible fishing deck. This bridge connects the eastern and western portions of the new three-mile trail addition. The KVTC, through the help of grants, financial donations and a generous donation of hand-worked pine timbers, has converted the original designated bridge design into a more fitting and attractive “covered bridge” style. This was built using the post and beam frame construction method and is similar in style to many of the old, historic covered bridges of northwestern Pennsylvania. (Submitted by Greg Davis)

Hike, bike, or ski the beautiful Kinzua Valley Trail in Northwestern Pennsylvania! Travel along the banks of the Kinzua Creek through vibrant forest and marshland bounding with wildlife. Just bring your boots, bike, or skis and take to the trail for serenity or adventure.

Snowshoeing is gaining popularity on the trail, and equestrians can now ride the trail from US Route 219 (Tally Ho Trailhead) into Westline. Please stay to the right of the bike path and do not leave a mess on the trail. We need a location to install a tie-up rail in Westline - any ideas, contact us.

With grant funding and the tireless effort of dedicated volunteers, the Kinzua Valley Trail Club added 4 miles to the trail in 2016, 2.5 miles in 2018; and they continue to Blaze the Trail! Presently, the KVT spans 7 miles, starting at the trailhead in the Village of Westline and continuing to Red Bridge Recreation Area of the Allegheny Reservoir. But, work is ongoing to extend the trail all the way to Kinzua Bridge State Park near Mount Jewett for a total of 21 miles! (New trail construction has begun betweem US Rte 219 and Guffey.)
